Baptist Care Australia's Recommendations for Aged Care Act 2024

In response to the Exposure Draft of the Aged Care Act 2024, Baptist Care Australia submitted our recommendations to the federal government. As representatives of Baptist community service organisations nationwide, we stress the importance of a balanced approach in the Act.

We advocate for additional consultation and clarity on funding and transition periods. We must ensure a rights-based approach, recognising the rights and responsibilities of aged care stakeholders. We have concerns regarding proposed penalties and suggest aligning them with existing workplace health and safety laws.

Moreover, we call for adequate time for service providers to prepare for the Act's implementation, proposing a minimum 12-month transition period. We emphasise the importance of sustainable funding to ensure high-quality aged care services and address workforce shortages to deliver high-quality care to older Australians.

Refer to the attached PDF submission to the Department of Health and Aged Care for a detailed overview of our recommendations.
